I was browsing Instagram recently, looking at some different bloggers I admire. But, the more I looked at everyone else’s amazing Instagram lives, the more I thought my life was not quite so amazing…
Luckily, I got off Instagram and called up a good friend. She helped me refocus and remember some fundamental truths about myself. I got off the phone, pulled up a pic of myself, wrote some key phrases and stuck them around me to remind myself that life really – and I mean really – is a journey.
If I stop comparing my life to other people, I remember all the things that I love about me and my personal journey. I remember that I love being a mom. I remember that I love where my life is right now. I remember that 10 years ago, I felt awful every day, and I had little hope of my health every changing.
I remember all the people I love in my life. I remember that today is wonderful. So next time I’m browsing Instagram or FaceBook or whatever it might be, I start to look around again and wonder why I’m not further on my journey than I might want to be, I’ll remember that I’m just starting out.
So next time I’m browsing Instagram or FaceBook, and I start to look around again and wonder why I’m not further on my journey, I’ll remember that I’m just starting out.
My journey begins new each day. And if I look at only my journey – not all the other bloggers with 100,000 followers, or that friend on FaceBook who’s always on vacation to some tropical island, or whatever it might be! – I remember again why I love my life.
I love it because it is a journey and I’m in control. I love my life because I know I can create what I want to be a part of it. I love this life of mine because I’ve filled it with things and people I love, and I’m working to fill it even more with things and people I love!
Then I’ll pull out my “power picture” and remind myself (again) that it really is my own journey – and as I stop comparing myself to others, I’ll remember all I love about my own life!
